"We no longer sell audience, we sell proof"

Published on August 20, 2026

An interview with the management of an Algiers advertising sales house on moving from selling volume to selling against measurements the advertiser can check.

The sales house we met lost two accounts in 2024 to the same objection: the advertiser no longer believed the declared audience figures. It changed the way it sells rather than its rate card.

"We stopped presenting an audience. We present a measurement setup, and the advertiser picks the one they accept as referee. Once the measurement comes from a third party, the conversation about price becomes a real conversation."

The change cost two things. Revenue fell 17% in the first quarter, because campaigns whose performance did not survive measurement were not renewed. And they had to accept publishing weak results on some titles.

Eighteen months on, the client list is shorter and the average budget is 60% higher. Management sums it up: "The advertisers who stay renew without negotiating every line. That is what we had lost."
