Twelve varieties compared across four sites and three seasons, with the results published whatever they say.
Twelve barley varieties are compared across four sites with different rainfall, over three full seasons. The protocol is written before the first sowing and lodged, which is what separates a trial from a demonstration.
Results are published whichever way they point, including if no variety stands out. That is a condition of the funding and not an intention: the three trial series run in the region since 2018 produced no publication at all, and nobody today knows what they showed.
The budget covers seed, readings and agronomist time. It covers no multiplication and no commercialisation.
